Mathias Pogba has returned to competitive football after serving part of his prison sentence, making a significant impact on the pitch for Belgian club SKN Sint-Niklaas.
The 34-year-old forward, who was sentenced in December to three years in prison—two of which were suspended—for his role in the extortion of his younger brother, Paul Pogba, featured in a local derby over the weekend.
Despite his legal troubles, Mathias made an immediate impact, scoring twice late in the game to secure a 4-3 victory for his team. His goals came in the 82nd and 90th minutes, proving decisive for Sint-Niklaas.
The two brothers are all of Guinean descent, with both of their parents from Guinea.
Mathias, who has previously played for clubs such as Pescara, Wrexham, and Murcia, had already spent time in pre-trial detention before being released under conditions. He is currently wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet as part of his sentence.
Meanwhile, his younger brother Paul Pogba, a World Cup winner with France, is focused on regaining his fitness.
The former Juventus midfielder is served an 18-month ban from football after testing positive for doping and is expected to make a comeback once his suspension is over.
