Paul Pogba is savoring his first seconds back on the pitch after over two years away from competitive football.

“I’m very happy to have returned to football. This is what I love the most in the world. Football is not over for me,” Pogba declared after his debut for Monaco in their Ligue 1 match against Rennes.

The French midfielder last played in September 2023 for Juventus before his career was halted by a doping scandal and a subsequent four-year ban. With the penalty later reduced to 18 months and Juventus terminating his contract, Pogba found a fresh start as Monaco took a chance on him, signing him on a free transfer in August.

His fitness struggles meant the debut was long delayed, but at last, he made it onto the field. Though Monaco suffered a 4-1 defeat to Rennes, Pogba’s brief stint added moments of flair, a cheeky no-look pass, a sublime long ball, and more importantly, hope for a renewed career.

Pogba’s return has inspired fans and reignited belief that his story in football is far from over.
