After several months without a club, Burkinabé defender Patrick Malo has made the decision to return to his roots by signing with USFA (Union Sportive des Forces Armées) of Burkina Faso. In an exclusive interview with 226foot, Malo shed light on the motivations behind his transfer to the military club, where his professional journey began over a decade ago.
Malo, who joined USFA on August 13, expressed a deep sense of loyalty and nostalgia as key factors in his decision.
“The choice of USFA, as I’ve mentioned before, stems from my deep connection to this club.
It’s the club that gave me my first opportunity after I completed my training at the IFFA center in 2010, under the guidance of Mr. Daouda Sanou, known as Famozo,” Malo explained.
“For me, it’s an honor and a joy to return home, to take on new challenges, and to bring my experience to the team.
I also hope to mentor the younger players and help the club achieve greater success.”
Malo, the son of former Burkina Faso national team coach Kamou Malo, is determined to lead USFA back to the pinnacle of Burkinabé football.
His ambitions extend beyond domestic success; he has his sights set on making a mark on the international stage as well.
“For this season, my goal is to guide USFA, along with my teammates, to the top of Burkinabé football and even achieve success internationally,” he said. “On a personal level, I am eager to return to the international scene.
I’m hungry for more, and I still have a lot to prove.”
Patrick Malo’s return to USFA marks the continuation of a career that has seen him play in various countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Kuwait.
His move back to Burkina Faso comes after two years without a club, a period that Malo is eager to put behind him as he embarks on this new chapter with USFA.
He has signed a two-year contract with the club, and his experience and leadership are expected to be invaluable assets as USFA aims to reclaim its position among the elite teams in Burkinabé football.
With his wealth of international experience and a strong personal connection to USFA, Patrick Malo’s return is poised to be a significant boost for the club.
His determination to succeed both on a national and international level underscores his commitment to making a lasting impact in his home country’s football landscape.
