En-Nesyri shines with double but defensive lapses cost Al-Ittihad
Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri delivered a standout performance with two goals, but Al-Ittihad were beaten 4-3 by Neom SC in a dramatic Saudi Pro League clash.
The match, played at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium on Wednesday, saw En-Nesyri produce his most decisive display since joining the club, underlining his growing influence despite the team’s defeat.
Featuring in the 29th round of the Saudi Pro League, the encounter proved to be an intense and unpredictable contest, with momentum shifting throughout the game. At the centre of the action was En-Nesyri, whose clinical finishing gave his side an early advantage.
The former Sevilla forward, who joined from Fenerbahçe during the winter transfer window, had faced criticism in his opening appearances for a lack of efficiency in front of goal.
However, he responded emphatically, showcasing his aerial strength and composure inside the penalty area.
He opened the scoring by connecting with a precise cross, before doubling the lead with a powerful header, a hallmark of his attacking style.
The brace took his tally to four goals in eight league appearances, signalling steady progress as he adapts to his new surroundings.
Despite his efforts, Al-Ittihad were unable to maintain control of the match. After establishing a two-goal cushion, their defensive structure faltered under sustained pressure from Neom, who capitalised on repeated attacking opportunities.
The visitors mounted a comeback and ultimately secured a 4-3 victory in a high-scoring finish, leaving Al-Ittihad to reflect on missed chances and defensive shortcomings.
While the result will be a disappointment for the Jeddah-based side, En-Nesyri’s performance offered a positive sign, suggesting that the Moroccan international is beginning to find his rhythm in the Saudi Pro League.
