Patrice Evra: Alex Ferguson would be in jail if he was still coaching
Former France international of Senegalese descent Patrice Evra has disclosed that ex-Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was mean when he was coaching.
Evra, now 43 years old, played under Ferguson during his active days and made over 270 appearances for the English Premier League outfit between 2006 and 2014.
Speaking on the SDS Podcast, Evra revealed that Alex Ferguson often made players cry.
Recounting many times the renowned coach was mean to players, Evra said Ferguson could be in jail today if he were still coaching.
“If Ferguson was coaching today, he’d probably end up in prison,” Évra joked.
He added, “You don’t know how many players I saw cry because he screamed at them or threw a boot at them… He was mean.”
He further recounted one incident between Alex Ferguson and Danny Welbeck.
“Rooney gave him [Welbeck] the ball but he missed. We lost the game, but it was a friendly, just like a 45-minute match. When we got back to the dressing room, Ferguson shouted ‘Welbeck!’ Danny and I were in the toilet — he was peeing — but Ferguson was screaming. ‘Who do you think you are?! You’ve barely arrived in the first team and you’re taking penalties?!’” Evra shared.
