The head coach of Algeria’s national team, Vladimir Petkovic has indicated that his team will prioritise qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup before heading to Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to him, participating at the AFCON will be easier once his team secures qualification for next year’s World Cup.
“Currently, the most important thing for us is not the African Cup of Nations, but qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. We have to work on achieving this goal because once we secure qualification for the World Cup, participating in the African Cup of Nations will be easier,” coach Vladimir Petkovic said as quoted on the website of the Algerian FA website.
At the end of the draw for the 2025 AFCON, Algeria was placed in Group E and will face off with Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan.
