Paris Saint-Germain are sweating over the fitness of France international of Malian descent Ousmane Dembélé ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with AS Monaco on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old attacker had already been feeling discomfort following PSG’s 3–1 Ligue 1 defeat to Stade Rennais on Friday, a match after which his post-game remarks drew significant attention. Despite those concerns, Dembélé travelled with the squad and took part in Monday evening’s training session at Monaco’s Stade Louis II.
However, signs of discomfort persisted during the session. The French international was observed testing his condition by attempting several sprints, while also engaging in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain’s medical staff. At various points, he appeared to be monitoring pain in his leg, casting doubt over his availability for the crucial European fixture.
Dembélé’s fitness has not been the only talking point surrounding him in recent days. After the loss to Rennes, the winger publicly criticised his teammates for being overly “individualistic,” comments that sparked a firm response from head coach Luis Enrique. The PSG manager dismissed post-match remarks as “worthless” and reiterated that no individual player stands above the club.
As PSG prepare for the high-stakes UEFA Champions League encounter in the Principality, the uncertainty around Dembélé adds another layer of intrigue. The Parisians have already confirmed that Fabián Ruiz and Senny Mayulu will both miss the trip to Monaco, further stretching Luis Enrique’s options.
A final decision on Dembélé’s involvement is expected closer to kick-off, as PSG weigh the risks ahead of a pivotal European night.
