Olympique de Marseille Drops Interest in Papy Djilobodji Over Price Dispute
Olympique de Marseille has reportedly decided against pursuing the signing of FC Nantes defender Papy Mison Djilobodji. The 25-year-old, who has featured twice in Ligue 1 this season, had been linked with a move to Marseille as the club searched for a new central defender.
However, according to RMC, the €8 million price tag set by Nantes was deemed too steep by Marseille’s management, leading the club to abandon their interest.
Meanwhile, Marseille has successfully negotiated with Montpellier over midfielder and versatile defender Benjamin Stambouli. Although Stambouli has yet to confirm his move, his ability to cover multiple defensive roles as well as midfield makes him an attractive option for the squad.
Adding to the uncertainty, OM head coach Marcelo Bielsa recently suggested that he did not favor signing Djilobodji, reinforcing the club’s decision to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
