Algerian international Jaouen Hadjam turns down Spartak Moscow as Serie A interest grows

Algerian international Jaouen Hadjam has rejected an approach from Spartak Moscow, instead prioritising a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues, with Italy his preferred destination.

The 21-year-old left-back, who plays for Swiss champions Young Boys Bern, has quickly become one of the most sought-after defenders on the market after an impressive 2024/25 season.

Establishing himself as a first-choice starter, Hadjam made 47 appearances across all competitions, 35 of them in the Super League, amassing 3,322 minutes on the pitch.

He also contributed two goals and three assists, underlining both his consistency and attacking potential.

His standout performances have drawn serious attention from Italy, with AS Roma and Torino both monitoring his progress.

While Roma have made initial inquiries, Torino appear to be leading the race.

The club are already planning for life beyond 32-year-old Cristian Biraghi and view Hadjam as a long-term solution to strengthen their left flank.

Interest, however, is not limited to Serie A. Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League, Augsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga, and La Liga side Sevilla are all keeping a close eye on the defender’s situation.

Hadjam remains under contract with Young Boys until 2026 and is currently valued at around €7 million, a fee that makes him an accessible yet strategic signing for clubs looking to secure a young player with proven European experience.

Hadjam’s decision to decline Spartak Moscow reflects his determination to test himself in a more competitive league.

The Russian side had reportedly presented a lucrative offer, but the player and his representatives made it clear that his career trajectory is aimed firmly at Europe’s elite competitions.

The defender’s rise has been swift, and his ability to balance defensive solidity with attacking contributions has made him one of Algeria’s brightest prospects.

A move to a top European league could also strengthen his international profile, offering him higher-level competition ahead of future campaigns with the national team.

For now, Young Boys remain focused on their domestic campaign, preparing for their upcoming Swiss Super League clash with FC Lugano.

But speculation around Hadjam’s future is expected to intensify as the transfer window progresses, with Torino in particular pushing hard to secure his signature.

At just 21, Hadjam faces a career-defining choice.

With multiple clubs circling, his next move could determine whether he fulfils the promise that has already made him one of the standout young full-backs in European football.
