The former president of Olympique de Marseille (OM), Pape Diouf, is reportedly being courted by two socialist candidates in the Marseille mayoral elections. Marie-Arlette Carlotti, the minister responsible for disabled people and the fight against exclusion, and Samia Ghali, the mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Marseille, are both seeking the support of the Senegalese figure. Pape Diouf, who is not affiliated with any political party, is known to be close to the ruling socialist party in France. Born in Chad in 1951, Diouf moved to Marseille at the age of 19 and has had a diverse career as a sports journalist, players’ agent, and president of OM from 2005 to 2009.
