Panathinaikos consider Girona midfielder Azzedine Ounahi in potential return to Greece

Azzedine Ounahi, the Morocco midfielder currently at Girona, has been linked with a move to Panathinaikos in the Greek Super League.

The 26-year-old joined Girona from Marseille for €6m on 30 August 2025 and remains under contract with the Spanish club until 30 June 2030. His reported market value is €18m.

Ounahi is yet to make an appearance for Girona in LaLiga2 this season, after the club were relegated from Spain’s top flight during the 2025-26 campaign. The central midfielder has, however, featured regularly for Morocco at the 2026 World Cup, starting five of his six matches and scoring twice.

The possible move would represent a return to Panathinaikos for Ounahi, who spent the 2024-25 season on loan at the Athens club from Marseille. He made that temporary switch on 4 September 2024 for a reported loan fee of €500,000 before returning to Marseille at the end of the campaign.

Ounahi was part of the Morocco side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. He began his senior club career in France with Avranches before joining Angers in 2021 and moving to Marseille in January 2023.

The reported interest comes with Ounahi’s future at Girona under scrutiny, but the player’s long-term contract means any transfer would need to be negotiated rather than completed as a free move.
