Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen has set an ambitious target for his side ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, drawing inspiration from Morocco’s remarkable journey at the previous edition of the tournament.

The Panama boss believes his team can emulate the success achieved by the Atlas Lions in Qatar and has challenged his players to dream big as they prepare for football’s biggest stage.

Speaking to Telemundo, Christiansen made it clear that he is not placing any restrictions on what his team can achieve at the tournament, which begins on June 11.

“Why not be the Morocco of this World Cup?” he said.

Panama have been drawn in Group L alongside Ghana, Croatia, and England. Their World Cup campaign will begin with a clash against Ghana on June 18.

Morocco’s historic performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup continues to serve as inspiration for many nations. The Atlas Lions stunned the football world by defeating heavyweight opponents Spain and Portugal on their way to becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

That achievement significantly elevated Morocco’s standing in global football, with the North African side now widely regarded as one of the game’s emerging powerhouses.

As they prepare for another World Cup appearance, Morocco will once again be looking to make an impact. The team heads into the tournament with a blend of experienced stars and fresh talent, with head coach Mohamed Ouahbi eager to see his squad continue its development on the international stage.

Before the World Cup begins, Morocco will face Madagascar and Norway in a pair of friendly matches. The Atlas Lions will take on Madagascar on June 2 before facing Norway on June 7 as part of their final preparations.

Morocco will then turn its attention to the World Cup, where they are set to open their Group C campaign against Brazil. Scotland and Haiti complete a group that promises to provide a stern test for all four nations.
