Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has expressed confidence in Bryan Mbeumo’s ability to succeed at Old Trafford, as the club steps up efforts to sign the Brentford forward.
United have reportedly submitted an improved offer of £60 million plus bonuses for the Cameroon international, who has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Amid uncertainty surrounding United’s attacking options, the 25-year-old is seen as a potential key addition to bolster the squad.
Asked by Tribalfootball.com whether Mbeumo could handle the pressure that comes with playing for United, Pallister admitted it’s always a difficult transition but believes the Brentford man has the temperament to succeed.
“Well, that’s the million-dollar question,” said the former defender. “That’s why there’s talk about him going with Thomas Frank to Tottenham. They finished below us last season, so maybe we got the edge on that one.
“But no, I think he’s a good player. He looks like a very calm character, and if he were to come to Old Trafford, I think he would embrace it and could be a real threat.”
Pallister also acknowledged the uncertainty in the current squad and hopes for stability during the transfer window.
“There are players coming and going, there’s talk about a total rebound of the squad,” he said. “It’d be nice to have a settled idea about what your team’s going to be when you go on your pre-season tour.”
