Ousmane Sountoura signs one-year deal with Greek club Panargiakos

Ousmane Sountoura

Malian international midfielder Ousmane Sountoura has officially signed a one-year contract with Panargiakos, a club in Greece’s second division. This move marks Sountoura’s return to the Greek football scene after a period of relative quiet following his departure from Al Shabab SC in the United Arab Emirates.

Sountoura, 29, expressed his enthusiasm about the new chapter in his career, stating, “I am very happy to sign with Panargiakos in the Greek second division.

I was happy with this opportunity. Now I will work very hard, more than I usually do to return to the top.”

His determination is evident as he sets his sights on making a significant impact during his time at Panargiakos.

The one-season contract with Panargiakos represents a fresh start for Sountoura, who has experienced a varied career across multiple leagues.

This return to Greece is particularly significant for the midfielder, as he is re-entering a familiar environment where he has previously enjoyed success.

Reflecting on his decision, Sountoura said, “I know the championship well.

As a midfielder, I have already scored 17 goals.

The coach (Georgios Vazakas) knows me well and presented me with a good project. Besides, we have already worked together.

So, he knows all my qualities. The objective is to relaunch myself, to perforate and, moreover, to evolve further towards other big championships.”

Sountoura’s previous experience in Greek football, combined with his strong relationship with Panargiakos head coach Georgios Vazakas, played a crucial role in his decision to join the club.

Vazakas’ familiarity with Sountoura’s style of play and capabilities is expected to help the midfielder seamlessly integrate into the team and contribute to their ambitions for the upcoming season.

Despite interest from other clubs, Sountoura ultimately chose Panargiakos due to the clarity and decisiveness of their offer.

“Yes, I was already waiting for offers that at the last moment were a bit late and undecided.

We can say that Panargiakos was more concrete and the discussions went quickly, here I signed.

Now I know the project well and I will give 100%,” Sountoura explained.

His commitment to the club’s vision underscores his resolve to make the most of this opportunity.

Throughout his career, Sountoura has played for various clubs across different countries, including Santa Clara and Casa Pia in Portugal, as well as Oman Club and Al Shabab SC in the UAE.

His return to Greece and his partnership with Panargiakos offer him a platform to re-establish himself at the top level and potentially pave the way for further opportunities in more prominent leagues.

With a year to prove his worth at Panargiakos, Sountoura is focused on making a strong impact in the Greek second division and reigniting his international career.

His experience, coupled with his determination to succeed, could make him a key player for Panargiakos as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming season.
