Senegalese defender Ousmane Diao targeted by Premier League and Bundesliga clubs
Senegalese defender Ousmane Diao is attracting strong interest from across Europe, with clubs in both the Bundesliga and Premier League competing for his signature after a standout season with FC Midtjylland.
The 21-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the most promising defensive talents in European football, drawing attention for his performances in Denmark.
His rapid development has not gone unnoticed, and interest in his services has intensified in recent months as clubs begin planning for the next transfer window.
Among the most concrete approaches so far has come from RB Leipzig, who saw a €12 million bid rejected by Midtjylland.
The Danish club reportedly considers the offer below their valuation, signalling their intention to retain the player unless a significantly improved proposal is made.
Despite Leipzig’s strong interest, the race for Diao remains open, particularly with several English clubs monitoring the situation closely.
Crystal Palace are understood to have identified the Senegalese defender as a priority target as they seek to rebuild their defensive structure following the departure of Marc Guéhi in January.
The London club is reportedly keen to add stability at the back, with Diao’s profile fitting their requirements.
AFC Bournemouth have also expressed admiration for the player, particularly valuing his ability to play out from defence.
His composure on the ball and tactical awareness have made him an attractive option for teams looking to build from the back.
Leipzig, for their part, are said to have offered Diao a long-term contract spanning five years, along with a structured development pathway designed to support his progression at the highest level.
However, the growing financial power of Premier League clubs, combined with the player’s reported ambition to play in England, could complicate the German side’s pursuit.
Diao remains under contract with Midtjylland until June 2029, placing his current club in a strong negotiating position.
As a result, any potential transfer is likely to depend on whether interested clubs are willing to meet the Danish side’s valuation.
With interest mounting and competition intensifying, the defender is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched prospects in the upcoming transfer window, as clubs across Europe position themselves to secure his signature.
