Ittihad Tangier head coach Hilal Al-Tayyar has praised his team’s resilience after securing their place in the Moroccan Professional League for another season, describing their journey as one worthy of admiration and analysis.
Tangier currently sit 10th in the league with 37 points, their top-flight status confirmed following a vital 2-0 win over Meknesi in the penultimate round of the campaign at the Grand Stade de Tangier.
Speaking to Kooora, Al-Tayyar reflected on the club’s uphill battle in recent seasons. “It’s no exaggeration to say our story should be studied. It’s a source of inspiration for anyone facing difficult circumstances,” he said.
Al-Tayyar highlighted the numerous obstacles his side overcame, including a transfer ban, a reduced squad in the first half of the season, and the challenge of playing without home support for most of the campaign.
“We fought with limited resources, were unable to bring in new signings, and had to compete with a thin squad. For a large part of the season, we played away from our fans,” he explained. “Despite that, we managed to beat some of the biggest clubs and stay competitive.”
This marks the third consecutive season that Ittihad Tangier has clawed its way back from adversity to ensure survival in the top flight—a feat not lost on the coach.
“Some doubted us, but once again, we proved them wrong. I want to thank our loyal fans, the players, the board, and everyone who stood by this group,” he added.
Looking ahead, Al-Tayyar is optimistic about the club’s future, especially with a return to their home ground on the horizon.
“With our return to the iconic stadium that will host the CAN and World Cup matches, and with the backing of our supporters, we believe we can achieve even more, God willing.”
