RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet has hinted at the possibility of representing the Ivory Coast national team, as speculation over his international future continues to grow.
Solet, who recently made a move to Udinese, has been in fine form, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in the Serie A club’s defensive line.
Born in France to a Central African father and an Ivorian mother, the 24-year-old remains eligible to represent three nations—France, the Central African Republic, or Ivory Coast.
However, he appears in no hurry to make a definitive decision.
“Representing one of my countries would be a great source of pride. I would love to wear a national team jersey one day, but for now, it hasn’t happened yet. As I’ve already mentioned, if it’s going to happen, it will happen in due time,” Solet told a French media outlet.
A rising star in European football
Since his arrival at Udinese on a free transfer in October 2024, Solet has wasted little time in making an impact.
Officially registered in the squad during the summer of 2025, the central defender has been instrumental in his club’s performances, earning the Man of the Match award twice in his first ten appearances.
With his commanding presence, strong tackling ability, and adept passing skills, Solet has quickly become one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with clubs from England and Italy reportedly monitoring his progress closely.
Decision on international future still pending
Despite his rapid rise at club level, Solet remains undecided about his international future.
While France boasts a highly competitive squad, both the Central African Republic and Ivory Coast could offer him a greater chance of regular international football.
Ivory Coast, in particular, may prove an appealing option.
The reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions are continuously strengthening their squad, and Solet’s addition would bolster an already solid defensive setup.
For now, however, the defender remains focused on his club career, with any decision on his international allegiance likely to come at the right moment.
As his reputation continues to soar in Serie A, national teams will undoubtedly keep a close eye on his next move.
