Ouahbi provides fitness update on El Aynaoui and Bounou after Madagascar friendly
Morocco head coach Mohammed Ouahbi has reassured supporters that there is no major cause for concern regarding the fitness of Neil El Aynaoui and Yassine Bounou as the Atlas Lions continue their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, Ouahbi revealed that both players are dealing with minor issues but stressed that neither situation is serious enough to affect the team’s plans.
Minor Concerns for Key Players
Providing an update on El Aynaoui’s condition, the Moroccan coach explained that the midfielder had been affected by a minor illness.
“He was a little sick. He caught a mild virus, but it’s nothing serious. As for Bounou, he only felt a slight discomfort in his back, but really, nothing serious.”
The comments are expected to ease concerns among supporters with the World Cup now just days away and Morocco preparing for a demanding group stage campaign.
Importance of Squad Depth
Ouahbi also highlighted the importance of having every member of the squad prepared to contribute when called upon. The coach emphasised that maintaining a competitive and engaged group remains a key part of his management approach.
“Every player needs to feel invested, essential to the squad, and ready to step onto the pitch.”
He added that managing workloads and avoiding unnecessary risks does not prevent him from placing trust in other goalkeepers and squad members whenever rotation becomes necessary.
Focus on Readiness for the World Cup
As Morocco finalises its preparations for the tournament, the coaching staff remains focused on ensuring the entire squad is fit and available. Keeping players healthy allows the team to make changes when required without disrupting tactical balance or overall performance.
The Atlas Lions are working to arrive at the competition in peak condition, with every player expected to play a role during the campaign.
Countdown to Brazil Clash
With only six days remaining before their opening match, Morocco is preparing to travel to the United States for the start of the World Cup.
The Atlas Lions will begin their Group C journey against Brazil, one of the tournament favourites, making full squad readiness a crucial objective as they aim to make a strong start on football’s biggest stage.
