Otto Addo flies Africa’s flag in FIFA World Cup 2026 Technical Study Group

Otto Addo will carry Africa’s representation at the highest technical level of global football after being named in FIFA’s Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA officially unveiled the panel on Sunday, with the former Ghana coach standing out as the only African member among a star-studded group of football minds selected to analyse all 104 matches at the expanded tournament.

The TSG, guided by legendary French manager Arsène Wenger and led by Swiss football expert Pascal Zuberbühler, features several renowned figures including Jürgen Klinsmann, Gilberto Silva, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Pablo Zabaleta.

Addo’s appointment highlights the growing recognition of African football expertise on the global stage following his work with the Black Stars and his contribution to player development in Europe.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach earned 15 caps for Ghana during his playing career and twice managed the Black Stars, first guiding the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar before returning for a second spell between 2024 and 2026.

As part of the TSG, Addo will help analyse matches from tactical and technical perspectives while contributing to FIFA’s Enhanced Football Intelligence initiative, which will provide real-time insights, advanced data analysis and tactical breakdowns throughout the tournament.

FIFA says the panel will play a major role in identifying modern football trends, helping shape coaching development and improving understanding of the game worldwide.

The group will also be responsible for selecting the winners of the tournament’s individual awards at the end of the competition.
