Orlando Pirates return to winning ways with emphatic DStv Diski Challenge victory
Reigning champions Orlando Pirates responded to their opening-day defeat by Kaizer Chiefs with a convincing 4-1 win against Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Diski Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers took control in the eighth minute when Aphelele Nzimande opened the scoring. They continued to put Stellenbosch under pressure and doubled their advantage shortly before half-time through Khumoetsile Van Schalkwyk.
Stellenbosch showed greater resolve after the interval and pulled a goal back, but Orlando Pirates remained in command. Van Schalkwyk restored their two-goal lead 10 minutes from time, completing his brace in the process.
Nzimande then secured the victory in the closing stages by adding his second goal, leaving Stellenbosch unable to mount a comeback.
AmaZulu maintain perfect start
AmaZulu stayed among the early pace-setters after beating Richards Bay FC 2-0 in the KwaZulu-Natal derby.
The result extended Usuthu’s perfect beginning to the season. Despite facing back-to-back local derbies at the start of the campaign, AmaZulu produced the same scoreline as in their previous match against Golden Arrows.
Richards Bay, known as the Natal Rich Boys, could not follow up their opening-day victory over Milford FC and will now have to regroup.
Siwelele claim first win
Siwelele FC recovered from their opening-day disappointment by defeating Chippa United 2-0 at the UJ AW Muller Stadium.
The result gave Siwelele their first victory of the campaign, while Chippa United were left to respond after beginning the season with a win against two-time champions Stellenbosch.
Siyabonga Msimango and Onthatile Lemao scored after half-time to secure maximum points for the visitors. Siwelele had been beaten by Sekhukhune United in their first match.

TS Galaxy also made it two wins from two by beating Durban City 1-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
The Rockets followed their opening-day victory over Polokwane City with another three points, although this was their first match on the road this season.
