Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has issued a heartfelt call to supporters to rally behind the team as they continue their quest for CAF Champions League glory and domestic success.
Following a vital 1-0 away victory over Algeria’s MC Alger in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final, the Buccaneers are preparing for a decisive return leg at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.
Sibisi, who has become a key figure for both club and country, believes the energy and backing of fans could play a pivotal role in determining the team’s fortunes during this crucial phase of the season.
“The supporters are playing their part; their presence really makes a difference,” Sibisi said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the way they’ve shown up for us. But now, more than ever, we need them to come out in full force for these final games.”
The Pirates are enjoying a strong run of form across competitions. In addition to their Champions League campaign, they remain in contention for domestic honours.
A narrow but important win against Polokwane City over the weekend helped the Soweto-based side close the gap on DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, trimming the difference to 12 points. Sibisi himself found the net in that fixture, underlining his growing influence on the team.
Speaking after the match, the Bafana Bafana centre-back praised the resilience of his team and acknowledged the difficulty of facing Polokwane City.
“It was a very tough game. Polokwane City showed that they’re not an easy team to beat, especially on their home ground,” he said.
“Their attack was relentless throughout, but I’m proud of how we managed to stay composed, keep a clean sheet, and come away with all three points.”
Beyond the league and continental competition, Pirates are also eyeing silverware in the Nedbank Cup.
They are set to face Marumo Gallants in the semi-final at Orlando Stadium this coming Sunday, a match that Sibisi believes will again require strong backing from the stands.
“The support gives us energy, belief, and confidence,” he added. “We’re entering the most important stretch of the season, and it’s not something we can do alone. We need the whole Pirates family behind us, every step of the way.”
Sibisi’s consistent performances have not only solidified his position at the heart of the Pirates’ defence but also earned him recognition as a dependable figure in the South African national team.
As the stakes rise, his leadership and composure will be essential as Pirates chase multiple trophies.
The second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against MC Alger kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and the Pirates will be looking to build on their slender advantage in front of what they hope will be a packed and passionate home crowd.
For Sibisi and his teammates, the message is clear: the fans are not just spectators—they are a vital part of the club’s pursuit of glory.
