Orlando Pirates midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi could be on his way out of the club, with reports suggesting that the South African side are in negotiations with a club in Bahrain over a potential transfer.

The 28-year-old was notably absent from Pirates’ MTN8 semi-final clash against Sekhukhune United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, where the Buccaneers secured a 1-0 victory.

Maswanganyi’s absence has raised further questions about his future at the club, particularly after head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou confirmed that the player was not left out because of an injury or any other physical problem.

With no apparent fitness concerns, his omission has fuelled speculation that negotiations over a possible departure could be taking place behind the scenes.

Maswanganyi has been linked with several clubs during the transfer window, with Chippa United previously reported to have shown interest in bringing the midfielder back into their ranks.

Egyptian side Pyramids FC have also been mentioned as a potential destination, but neither of those reported moves materialised.

The latest developments, however, point towards a possible move outside Africa, with a Bahrain-based club now reportedly in talks with Orlando Pirates over the player’s availability.

Although details of the negotiations remain unclear, the situation could indicate that Pirates are prepared to sanction Maswanganyi’s departure if the interested club meets their valuation.

The midfielder has been an important part of the Pirates squad and his potential exit would leave Ouaddou with another decision to make as the club prepares for a demanding campaign.

Maswanganyi’s absence from the MTN8 semi-final, coupled with the latest reports surrounding negotiations with the Bahrain club, has therefore intensified speculation over his future.

For now, no official announcement has been made regarding his departure, and the talks will have to progress before a deal can be considered complete.

However, with the transfer window still open, Maswanganyi could be heading for a new chapter in his career, potentially taking his talents to the Asian market if the ongoing negotiations result in an agreement.
