Orlando Pirates are set to engage sworn-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in fierce battle for the signature of South African forward Oswin Appollis in the summer.
The Soweto clubs are seeking to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign following an inconsistent performances this term.
Despite their cup triumph, Kaizer Chiefs fell short of lofty expectations in the league and are eager to fix their wrongs for the new season with high-profile signings.
Pirates, on the other hand, fell short in all competitions, missing out on the Cup competition in South Africa to Kaizer Chiefs, the Premiership and the CAF Champions League at large.
Adding to their fierce rivalry on the pitch, the two most glamourous Soweto clubs are set to battle it out on the transfer market, having set sights on Appollis, who plies his trade for fellow South Africa club, Polokwane City.
The 23-year-old made 26 appearances in the South African Premiership, scoring two goals and providing assist.
At the beginning of the campaign, Appollis was linked with a move to Algerian outfit MC Alger, but Polokwane held firm. Kaizer Chiefs then attempted to sign the winger but to no avail.
Per reports, Polokwane are planning to find a replacement for Appollis, whose form has dipped this season, with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs emerging as candidate to snap up the winger this summer.
