Omar El Hilali has shared the heartfelt moment his family learned of his first call-up to the Moroccan national team, revealing that his parents were moved to tears upon hearing the news.
A Dream Realised
Speaking to the official website of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the Espanyol defender recounted how he found out about his selection while in the middle of a training session with his club.
“I immediately told my mother and father, and they burst into tears. Thank God, it was a dream come true,” El Hilali said. “W
earing the national team jersey is a privilege that not everyone gets. Anyone called up must be proud and work hard to advance their country.”
A Message to the Fans
The 21-year-old right-back, who has been regarded as one of Morocco’s promising young talents, also expressed his excitement about the upcoming international fixtures and urged Moroccan supporters to rally behind the team.
“I ask our supporters to encourage us in the matches against Niger and Tanzania. God willing, we will qualify for the World Cup,” he added.
Morocco’s Upcoming Fixtures
The Atlas Lions are set to face Niger on March 21 before taking on Tanzania on March 25.
Both matches will be played at the Stade d’Honneur in Oujda, with kick-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m. local time.
El Hilali’s inclusion in the squad marks a significant milestone in his career, as he looks to establish himself as a key figure for Morocco on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
