Manchester United Football Club announced late on Saturday the appointment of Moroccan executive Omar Berrada as their new Chief Executive Officer.
The club stated on its official website, “As part of the club’s commitment to placing football and performance at the heart of everything we do, Omar’s appointment comes as the first step in this process.”
The announcement continued, “Being one of the most experienced executives in European football, Omar brings significant football and business expertise, with a track record of leadership success and a passion for contributing to change within the club.”
Omar recently held the position of Chief Executive Officer for Football Operations at the City Football Group, overseeing 11 clubs across five continents.
Prior to that, he occupied high-ranking positions at Barcelona.
The club further added, “Our declared ambition is to rebuild Manchester United as a club that achieves championships.
We are delighted that Omar will join us to assist in achieving this goal, allowing United’s fans to once again see the red flag flying high at the summit of English, European, and global football, as expressed by Sir Matt Busby.”
Manchester United has not disclosed when Omar will begin his role but affirmed in the statement, “Patrick Stewart will continue in the role of interim CEO.”
