Olympique de Marseille’s resurgence under new coach Jean-Louis Gasset has not only elevated the team’s performance but has also seen players like Pape Gueye rediscover their form. After an impressive showing at the Africa Cup of Nations (afcon), Gueye conveyed his appreciation to Coach Gasset following a notable victory against Clermont.
Despite facing challenges, Pape Gueye showcased his resilience and dedication, making a significant impact during his first start of the season in the League, contributing to OM’s resounding 5-1 victory over Clermont.
Reflecting on his journey, Gueye shared, “I was focused on what I was doing. First, I came out of the AFCON injured, then I came back to the club, there was this moment when I was removed from the club. But I continued to work, and the coach called on me.
I will continue to work. Obviously, I’m very happy, plus we win this match. If we hadn’t won, I would have been less happy. I did 60 minutes this (Saturday) evening. As the matches go on, I will feel better and better.”
The midfielder, who received substantial playing time for the first time this season, seized the opportunity to express his gratitude to Coach Gasset for making what he deemed “strong decisions.” Gueye emphasized the importance of coach support in a player’s journey, acknowledging Gasset’s ability to make challenging decisions since his arrival.
“When you are a football player, that’s all you expect, the support of the coach. I would like to thank him. He arrived in a position that was not easy for him, and he knew how to make strong decisions.
From now on, as long as we win the matches, I will continue to work personally, but the most important thing is the collective,” stated Gueye during his interaction with journalists.
As Olympique de Marseille continues its upward trajectory, players like Pape Gueye attribute their successes to the collective efforts and strategic decisions made by Coach Jean-Louis Gasset.
