In the midst of the global Gareth Bale saga, France experienced its own commotion during the summer transfer window with the Florian Thauvin case. The U20 world champion, who arrived at Olympique de Marseille in a controversial manner, made his first appearance in front of the press on Thursday.
Knowing that his transfer was highly anticipated, the former Lille player explained his departure without offering a justification, stating, “I have always been told that whoever justifies himself accuses himself. I know what I did and why I did it.” Thauvin added, “I have my reasons, and if I don’t justify myself, it’s because I know why I made this choice. I understand that Lille supporters can be disappointed and angry, but in the clubs, certain things happen internally, and they cannot necessarily understand.”
Thauvin is expected to be part of the Marseille squad for the 5th day of Ligue 1 against Toulouse on Saturday.
