Olympique de Marseille (OM) is actively pursuing new talent to strengthen their squad, with their latest target being the 2024 Ebony Shoe winner, Kevin Denkey. As reported by the Marseille press, the club is focused on bolstering its attack during the ongoing transfer window.

As OM awaits the official appointment of new coach Roberto De Zerbi, the club’s management is working tirelessly to build a competitive team for the Italian tactician.

Defensive reinforcements are already in the pipeline, with discussions ongoing for Malian defender Moussa Diarra and Lilian Brassier.

However, the club’s primary focus is on enhancing their offensive lineup, with Algerian winger Bachir Belloumi being a key target.

Recent information from the specialized account La Minute OM reveals that OM’s management has shown significant interest in 23-year-old Kevin Denkey, who was recently awarded the Ebony Shoe as the best African player in Belgium.

This move is seen as a strategic effort to replace outgoing striker Vitinha and to anticipate potential transfers of key forwards, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Iliman Ndiaye, who are being courted by Saudi Arabian clubs and Everton, respectively.

Despite OM’s interest, they are not currently leading the race to sign Denkey.

Another top French club, set to compete in European tournaments next season, is also in advanced talks with the Togolese international, creating formidable competition for the Marseille side.

OM’s challenge is further compounded by their absence from European competitions in the 2024-2025 season.

Kevin Denkey has had an impressive season, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess. The Lomé-born striker netted 27 goals in 38 Belgian league matches for Cercle Brugge, making him the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League.

His remarkable performance placed him nine goals ahead of Algerian Mohamed Amoura of Union Saint-Gilloise.

Currently contracted until 2026, Denkey’s market value is estimated at €16 million, according to Transfermarkt.

OM’s pursuit of Denkey underscores their commitment to rebuilding a formidable attacking force.

However, securing his signature will be a challenging task given the competition from other elite clubs.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen if OM can successfully navigate these challenges and secure one of Africa’s brightest talents for their squad.
