In-demand France forward of Algerian descent Rayan Cherki is expected to cost more than projected in the summer transfer window.
According to reports in France, Olympique Lyon will demand around €40 million for the talented attacker.
After 14 years in Lyon’s ranks, Cherki confirmed his departure with heartfelt words after the last Ligue 1 match against Angers.
“In my tears, there were 14 years of passion, 14 years of hard work, 14 years of determination,” Cherki said post-match.
He added, “As I just told you, where I come from, there are very few who would have recovered. I am very proud of myself.”
Having emerged from the Lyon academy, the forward was once heralded as one of France’s brightest prospects.
Now, as he prepares to close the chapter on a formative spell in his career, his future appears destined for a move abroad.
Clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all been linked with potential moves to sign Cherki in the summer window.
Initially, he was valued at just €22 million, but per new information, clubs must cough up €40 million to secure his signing.
The race for the in-demand attacker is expected to heat up in the coming weeks.
