Olympique de Marseille submit formal bid for Ivorian midfielder Hamed Junior Traoré

Olympique de Marseille have launched a formal move to sign Ivorian international Hamed Junior Traoré, submitting an initial bid to Bournemouth as they look to reinforce their midfield ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old, who spent last season on loan at AJ Auxerre in Ligue 1, enjoyed an impressive campaign with 10 goals and two assists in 26 appearances.

His performances have reignited interest from several European clubs, but it is Marseille who have taken the lead by making a concrete approach for the player.

Traoré originally joined Bournemouth from Sassuolo in 2023 for a fee in the region of €25 million. However, his time in the Premier League has been disrupted by injury setbacks and limited game time.

Following a short loan spell at Napoli, the Ivorian returned to France where he rediscovered his form with consistent attacking displays for Auxerre.

Despite interest from clubs such as West Ham, OGC Nice, Bologna, Atalanta, and Fiorentina, Marseille have stepped forward with a reported €12 million offer, including performance-related bonuses.

While Bournemouth are said to be holding out for a figure closer to €20–30 million, Marseille’s early bid signals their strong intent to finalise the deal quickly.

Under the leadership of newly appointed head coach Roberto De Zerbi, the French side sees Traoré as a key piece in their attacking setup.

His ability to operate as a central playmaker or in wider roles gives tactical flexibility—something De Zerbi values highly in his system.

Though Traoré’s output was disrupted by physical issues earlier in his time with Bournemouth, his revival in Ligue 1 has re-established his value in the market.

Clubs across Europe have taken note of his technical finesse, creativity in the final third, and ability to link midfield and attack with speed and accuracy.

During his time at Auxerre, Traoré showed a strong connection with the team’s offensive rhythm, contributing both as a goal threat and a playmaker.

These attributes make him an appealing option for Marseille, who are seeking to strengthen in midfield following a mixed campaign.

Bournemouth are reportedly open to letting Traoré leave, provided their valuation is met. With the player under contract until 2028, the English club retains negotiating power, but the desire to cash in could play in Marseille’s favour—especially if the Ivorian pushes for a move back to Ligue 1.

At this stage, there is no indication of an agreement being reached, but with Marseille already making the first move, the groundwork has been laid.

If the club can improve their bid or agree on a payment structure that suits Bournemouth, they may succeed in bringing Traoré to the Stade Vélodrome.

The coming weeks will be crucial as Marseille await a response from Bournemouth, and rival clubs continue to monitor the situation.

For Traoré, a move to OM would represent not just a return to France, but also a chance to compete in a top-tier side with continental ambitions—an opportunity to reignite a promising career that has only just begun to show its full potential.
