Olympique Akbou delivered a shock result on Tuesday, defeating league leaders Mouloudia Algeria 1-0 in a rescheduled round 21 fixture at the Wahda Magharebia Stadium in Bejaia.
The breakthrough came in the 79th minute when Abdelhak Hasker calmly converted a penalty, sealing a memorable victory for the home side.
The evening turned worse for Mouloudia Algeria just four minutes later, as Ayoub Abdellawi was shown a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
The result ended Mouloudia’s impressive 11-game unbeaten run in the Algerian Pro League. The two sides had previously drawn 0-0 in the reverse fixture during the sixth round back in October.
Despite the loss, Mouloudia still hold top spot with 41 points, narrowly leading Shabab Belouzidad by a single point. However, they still have a postponed match to complete against Etihad Al Asema, with the new date yet to be confirmed.
Olympique Akbou’s win pushes them to 25 points and eleventh place, a strong boost as they aim to climb the standings.
MC Alger will take on Biskra next on April 19.
