Francis Koné is poised to make a move to Portugal in the coming hours, according to information from his agent on Tuesday. The Togolese striker, whose contract with Al Mussanah in Oman has reached its conclusion, is set to join Sporting Clube Olhanense in the Portuguese first division.
“Francis had to take a step forward after his great performances in Oman. Mussanah wanted to keep him, but the offer from Portugal is interesting and it’s a good challenge for him,” said Edson Alain Zadi, the player’s representative.
Having become a Togolese international in June of the previous year with one selection against Libya in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Koné, who has Ivorian origins through his father, had an impressive season in Oman. In 13 matches, he managed to score 9 goals and provided 6 assists.
If the deal goes through, Koné, at the age of 22, will embark on a new chapter in his career, exploring a new championship outside of Africa. This move comes after experiencing football in countries such as Norway, Georgia, Thailand, China, and Ukraine, among others.
