David Okereke scored once more for Gaziantep, but his effort was not enough to prevent a 3-1 defeat to Fenerbahce at the Ulker Stadium on Monday.
Okereke, having netted in Gaziantep’s recent 3-0 win over Basaksehir, started in the attack for the Turkish Super Lig clash.
Fenerbahce, managed by José Mourinho, included Nigerian right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel in their lineup for a third consecutive match.
The game began with an early lead for Fenerbahce as Oguz Aydin found the net just three minutes into play.
However, Gaziantep responded well and equalized just before halftime.
Okereke displayed his clinical finishing skills when he pounced on a rebound to score after his initial shot was saved, making it 1-1 going into the break.
The second half saw Fenerbahce take control, dominating possession and creating several opportunities.
Despite failing to convert until the 78th minute, Mourinho’s tactical changes, including four substitutions, eventually paid off.
Rodrigo Becao put Fenerbahce ahead before Edin Dzeko sealed the win with a well-taken goal in the 83rd minute, making it 3-1.
Okereke now has three goals in eight appearances in the Super Lig, continuing his strong form despite the defeat.
