The cost-cutting measures at Anzhi Makhachkala continue, and following the departure of Moroccan player Mbark Boussoufa, French midfielder Lassana Diarra has now left the club as well. Diarra has signed a 3-year contract with Lokomotiv Moscow, another team in the Russian championship that has been actively pursuing players since Anzhi’s decision to release high-earning players.
The official announcement of the transfer was made on Tuesday. This move sees Lassana Diarra leave Dagestan just a year after his arrival from Real Madrid. The president of Anzhi, Suleyman Kerimov, has been implementing a plan to reduce the club’s budget per season, resulting in the departure of high-profile players like Denisov, Kokorin, and Zhirkov.
Samuel Eto’o is now the only remaining high-earning player at Anzhi. Despite being the highest-paid player on the planet, Eto’o is reportedly receiving numerous offers as the club continues its restructuring efforts.
