Odilon Kossounou set for permanent Atalanta move as Bayer Leverkusen eyes profit
Bayer Leverkusen might be cashing in big this summer with Odilon Kossounou at the center of the action.
According to sport.de, Atalanta Bergamo is gearing up to secure the 24-year-old central defender on a permanent basis after his loan spell. The Serie A side holds a purchase option they’re eager to activate.
Should the transfer go through, Leverkusen would pocket roughly 25 million euros, plus the 5 million euros already earned from the loan fee. That’s a tidy 30 million euros total a nice little profit considering Kossounou joined from FC Bruges in 2021 for 23 million euros.
Even with a contract running until 2026, Kossounou slipped out of the starting lineup under Xabi Alonso last season. He settled in quickly at Bergamo, though an adductor injury in January threw a wrench in his momentum.
He’s expected back in team training by mid-April. Despite the setback, Atalanta remains committed to the 25-time Ivory Coast international. Bild reports that club bosses have already signaled their intent to keep him long-term.
