Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has re-emerged as a key transfer target for Nottingham Forest, as the Premier League side seeks to bolster its attacking options ahead of the summer window.
The 28-year-old Congo international, who has just one year left on his Brentford contract, is expected to be the subject of renewed bids after Forest saw an initial offer of £18–22 million rejected in January.
Wissa has been in prolific form this season, scoring 16 goals and providing two assists in 33 appearances for the Bees — making him the sixth-highest scorer in the Premier League.
Forest, whose top scorer Chris Wood will turn 34 in December, are keen to rejuvenate their attack with a younger, more mobile striker.
But despite Wissa’s contract nearing its final 12 months, Brentford hold the option to extend his deal by an additional year, giving them some leverage in negotiations.
Manager Thomas Frank has downplayed the possibility of Wissa leaving.
“There is a lot of rumours. For me, again he is a Brentford player and in my opinion Wissa is not for sale,” Frank said.
“He has been our leading number nine and done fantastic, so I cannot see why we should sell him.”
Speaking to Canal+ Sport Africa, Wissa acknowledged the speculation but remained non-committal about a potential move.
“There is an interest, there is an interest. Possible transfers in progress, I cannot say,” he said. “It’s true that for the moment I’m focused on Brentford but we’ll see what happens.”
Forest’s pursuit of Wissa could also be complicated by Brentford’s own squad uncertainties, with fellow attacker Bryan Mbeumo also linked with a summer exit.
If the Bees lose both players, the club may be reluctant to part with Wissa unless a substantial offer is tabled.
