Nottingham Forest agree £22m deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz

Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal worth at least £22m to sign Colombia right-back Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace.

Munoz has been given permission to undergo a medical before completing the move, with the 28-year-old expected to sign a three-year contract that includes an option for a further year. The agreement would keep him at Forest until 2030 if the extension is taken up.

The move will reunite Munoz with Nottingham Forest head coach Oliver Glasner, who was particularly keen to work with the Colombia international again. The pair previously spent time together at Crystal Palace, where Munoz impressed under the Austrian manager.

Reports on Friday indicated that Forest had increased their efforts to complete the signing. Munoz was an unused substitute as Crystal Palace lost 4-1 to Manchester City in the Premier League, having been withdrawn after only 55 minutes during Palace’s opening-day defeat by Everton.

The deal, which was revealed by the BBC, represents a significant profit for Crystal Palace. The club signed Munoz from Genk for £6.9m in January 2024, and he will leave after a successful two-and-a-half-year spell in south London.

Munoz made 109 appearances for Crystal Palace in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing 16 assists. During his time with the club, he won three trophies: the UEFA Conference League, the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

His form at domestic level was also reflected on the international stage. Munoz scored in Colombia’s opening two matches against Uzbekistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo before Colombia progressed to the last 16 of the World Cup.

The transfer will make Munoz Nottingham Forest’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window. He follows Xaver Schlager, Ousmane Diomande, Liam Delap, Stephen Benda and Gustavo Sa in joining the club.

Forest’s agreement with Crystal Palace now leaves the final formalities, including Munoz’s medical and contract signing, before the transfer can be completed. His arrival would give Glasner another experienced option at right-back while also bringing a player already familiar with the manager’s methods into the Forest squad.
