Nottingham Forest have accepted a £55 million offer from Newcastle United for winger Anthony Elanga, paving the way for the Sweden international to become the Magpies’ latest summer signing.
Elanga, who is of Cameroonian descent through his father, has attracted strong interest following an impressive season at the City Ground.
The 23-year-old joined Forest from Manchester United in 2023 for £15 million and has now emerged as a key target for Newcastle, who are rebuilding their squad ahead of a return to Champions League football.
According to BBC Sport, Forest have given the green light to the deal, with Elanga expected to finalise personal terms and approve the move.
The player is said to be keen on the switch, enticed by the opportunity to feature on Europe’s biggest stage next season.
Newcastle have already bolstered their wide options this summer with the free transfer of Antonio Cordero from Málaga.
But the addition of Elanga, with his Premier League experience and pace, would be a major boost to Eddie Howe’s side as they aim to compete domestically and in Europe.
Elanga’s potential exit comes as Forest continue reshaping their squad to meet financial regulations and build on last season’s momentum.
The club is set to make a sizeable profit on the Swedish winger, who made a strong impression in his debut season under Nuno Espirito Santo.
With Elanga now on the verge of moving to St. James’ Park, Newcastle are closing in on a player they see as a long-term asset.
The transfer, once finalised, will be one of the biggest outgoing deals in Forest’s recent history and a significant statement of intent from the Tyneside club as they prepare for the new campaign.
