The North African Football Union (UNAF) has finalized its calendar for the 2025 season following meetings in Tunis, outlining a series of tournaments aimed at developing football across various age groups and categories.
Key Tournaments and Events
The approved schedule features several key competitions:
- U-20 National Teams Tournament – Set to take place in Tunisia from June 1 to 10, this tournament will see national teams from North African member countries compete, with Italy also participating.
- U-15 National Teams Tournament – Scheduled for June 14 to 25 in Libya, this competition will serve as preparation for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
- Women’s U-17 Champions Tournament – Tunisia will host the inaugural edition of the CAF GIFT program from July 2 to 9, featuring league-winning teams in the U-17 category.
- Women’s U-20 National Teams Tournament – Egypt will stage this competition from August 2 to 9 as part of CAF’s “Forward” development initiative.
- Women’s Club Champions Qualifiers – The qualifying tournament for women’s club champions will be held in Tunisia from August 22 to 31, with the winner advancing to the final continental competition.
- U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers – A qualification event for the 2026 AFCON U-17 tournament is scheduled from November 11 to 25, with two teams securing a spot in the main tournament.
- School Football Tournament – Both boys’ and girls’ school teams will compete from December 14 to 20 in a tournament that will determine qualifiers for the African school football finals.
- Futsal Tournament – Libya will host a futsal competition featuring four teams, though the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
CAF Oversight and Financial Planning
Alaa Nabil, Technical Director of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), who attended the meetings, confirmed that all competitions will be conducted under the supervision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
He highlighted that these tournaments are strategically designed to prepare national teams for continental and international events, while also promoting the development of women’s football through high-level competition.
Meanwhile, financial matters were discussed during a separate committee meeting attended by Hussein Awad, EFA’s financial director. The discussions covered the 2025 budget, cost analyses for upcoming tournaments, and the approval of the previous year’s financial reports.
Executive Office Meeting in Cairo
Looking ahead, the UNAF Executive Office is set to convene on March 11 in Cairo, coinciding with the Confederation of African Football’s General Assembly.
The meeting, hosted by the Egyptian Football Association, will address key administrative and strategic decisions for the region’s football development.
