Nordi Mukiele’s time at Bayer Leverkusen ends with quiet departure

Nordi Mukiele’s stint at Bayer Leverkusen has officially ended, bringing a short chapter to a close for the French defender.

In what turned out to be his farewell match, a 4-2 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund on May 11, Leverkusen confirmed the decision with a parting message posted on “X”, thanking him for his contributions across 24 games and two goals.

There had been whispers that the club might seek to retain him beyond the summer, but those talks have fizzled out. Injuries and inconsistent form limited the 27-year-old’s impact in Germany, and Sky reports that the financial demands of a permanent move were ultimately too steep.

While Mukiele’s presence brought top-level experience, Leverkusen’s plans are now focused elsewhere. The defender heads back to parent club Paris Saint-Germain, where he remains under contract until 2027. Still, with no clear role waiting for him in Paris, his future remains open, and another move could soon be on the horizon.

For now, Mukiele leaves Leverkusen quietly, with appreciation, but without lasting influence.
