Transfer news

Noah Atubolu’s time at SC Freiburg appears to be drawing to a close after the goalkeeper trained away from the main squad as uncertainty over his future continues.

The 24-year-old did not take part in the club’s first public training session ahead of the new season, instead working individually with goalkeeping coach Michael Müller while discussions over a potential transfer continue.

Atubolu is understood to be seeking a move this summer as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Premier League ambition yet to materialise

The goalkeeper is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, but has yet to receive a concrete offer.

According to BILD, Hull City are the only club to have shown interest so far, with no formal bids currently on the table.

The lack of firm interest has left Atubolu’s immediate future unresolved despite his desire to secure a transfer before the new campaign begins.

Freiburg already planning for change

Freiburg have already begun preparing for life without their current first-choice goalkeeper.

After Atubolu opted not to extend his contract, the Bundesliga club signed Mio Backhaus to become their new number one, while Florian Müller is expected to serve as his deputy.

Sporting director Jochen Saier confirmed that discussions over Atubolu’s departure are ongoing.

“He is in talks with clubs, and I am convinced that he will take a very good step for himself and that we will part ways amicably.”

With Freiburg already reshaping their goalkeeping department, a transfer now appears to be the most likely outcome as Atubolu continues his search for a new club ahead of the start of the season.
