'No safe ground at Chelsea' – Nevin issues stark warning to Liam Rosenior

Chelsea’s turbulent season has already set the tone for high drama, and former Blues and Everton winger Pat Nevin has issued a cautionary note to interim manager Liam Rosenior.

Following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, Chelsea sit sixth in the Premier League, trailing Liverpool by three points and Manchester United and Aston Villa by six, with just ten games remaining.

The club’s top-five aspirations, and the accompanying Champions League qualification, hang in the balance.

Nevin, speaking to talkSPORTBET Casino, highlighted the relentless pressure inherent at Stamford Bridge. “You can’t bet against Chelsea sacking anyone. Just look at the record,” he said, though he stressed that Rosenior’s situation might be different this time.

“Maybe not this time. People are building clubs in different ways and there are questions over whether the manager is actually that important to the club, maybe the process maybe being even more important now.”

Despite Chelsea’s notorious history of managerial turnover, Nevin suggested Rosenior is better aligned with the board’s vision than many of his predecessors.

“Does it look to me as if the relationship between the manager and the upper echelons is in question here? No. Would him taking over this team at this time and maybe finishing sixth with a decently strong finish mean he should be sacked or that they will sack him? No, I don’t think that either.”

Still, the warning was clear: no Chelsea manager ever truly enjoys job security. “Is he safe? No Chelsea manager is ever, ever safe. But do I think it will happen in the summer if he doesn’t get Champions League? No, I don’t actually. I think he’ll be fine. I think he fits well with what the ownership want.”
