Speculation surrounding Moroccan left-back Mahmoud Bentayeb and a potential move to Egyptian side Pyramids FC has been firmly dismissed by both clubs, with Zamalek reiterating that the player remains under contract until 2028.
The controversy began after Bentayeb missed recent training sessions without approval from the Zamalek technical or administrative staff.
Former coach Ahmed Abdel Raouf claimed that the player had unilaterally terminated his contract, fueling rumors of a January transfer.
Zamalek responded with an official statement, emphasizing that Bentayeb is still officially registered with the club under FIFA regulations.
“His contract remains valid until the end of the 2027–28 season, and there is no change to his contractual status,” the club confirmed, putting an end to speculation about an immediate departure.
A source at Pyramids FC also addressed the rumors, telling Winwin that the club has not approached Bentayeb and has no plans to sign him in the January transfer window or during the summer.
“Our focus is on addressing our current squad needs for the second half of the season,” the source added.
Pyramids are also dealing with the absence of left-back Mohamed Hamdy, who recently suffered an ACL injury while on international duty with Egypt.
The club plans a meeting with head coach Krunoslav Jurcic to determine how best to manage the situation and reinforce the squad.
Meanwhile, Zamalek has formally instructed Bentayeb to return to training, taking all legal and administrative measures to safeguard the club’s interests and enforce its regulations.
The club stressed that all actions are in line with FIFA rules and standard administrative procedures for professional contracts.
