Six-Month Ban for Senegal’s Ousmane Cissokho After LFP Disciplinary Ruling
Senegalese winger Ousmane Cissokho has been handed a six-month suspension by France’s Professional Football League (LFP) following a disciplinary hearing into events that unfolded during a heated Ligue 2 match between Nîmes and Arles-Avignon.
The LFP’s Disciplinary Committee convened on Thursday evening to rule on several cases, including that of Cissokho and fellow player Garry Bocaly. The match in question, a 2-2 draw played on 29 August, was marred by on-field tensions and led to immediate precautionary suspensions.
Cissokho, who plays for Nîmes Olympique, has now received a six-month ban, while Arles-Avignon’s Bocaly was handed a three-month suspension. Both players had already missed one match under temporary bans issued shortly after the incident.
The exact nature of the misconduct was not detailed by the LFP, but the severity of the punishments suggests significant disciplinary breaches.
In a separate decision, the committee also ruled on the case of Nice striker Dario Cvitanich, who received a two-match ban for a challenge on Marseille’s Alaixys Romao during their recent Ligue 1 encounter. Cvitanich is currently sidelined for six weeks due to injury and is not expected to be immediately impacted by the suspension.
The LFP has not commented further on the decisions, but the bans represent a serious blow for both Cissokho and Bocaly, whose absence will be felt by their respective clubs in the ongoing campaign.
