Nigeria’s Tom Dele-Bashiru seals fresh chapter with Aris Thessaloniki after Watford exit
Tom Dele-Bashiru has officially ended his six-year association with Watford after completing a permanent transfer to Greek Super League club Aris Thessaloniki.
The 26-year-old midfielder joins Aris after leaving Vicarage Road, where he built a solid reputation following his arrival from Manchester City in 2019. Dele-Bashiru made 81 appearances for the Hornets across all competitions, scoring eight goals during his spell with the English Championship side.
The move marks a new chapter for the Nigeria international, who will now continue his career in Greece as Aris strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Watford highlights and search for consistency
Dele-Bashiru’s most memorable period at Watford came during the 2023/24 season, when he made an instant impact by scoring just 33 seconds into the opening league fixture against Queens Park Rangers.
He also delivered in a major fixture during the 2024/25 campaign, finding the net in Watford’s 2-0 victory over local rivals Luton Town in February.
However, his opportunities became limited towards the end of his time at the club. After making two appearances at the start of last season, the midfielder was sent on loan to Turkish side Genclerbirligi, where he spent the remainder of the campaign.
His departure brings an end to a journey that began with high expectations after his move from Manchester City, where he developed through the club’s youth system before seeking regular first-team football elsewhere.
Aris move offers Dele-Bashiru fresh opportunity
The transfer to Aris Thessaloniki provides Dele-Bashiru with the chance to revive his career and establish himself as a key figure in Greek football.
Known for his athleticism, energy and ability to contribute in attacking areas, the midfielder will be hoping regular playing time in Greece can help him regain momentum and push for further recognition on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Watford have also confirmed the departure of forward Jorge Hurtado, who has joined Colombian club Deportes Tolima on a season-long loan deal.
The agreement includes an option for Deportes Tolima to make the move permanent at the end of the loan period.
