KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has admitted that, despite his strong performances this season, he still has areas of his game and professional approach that need improvement.
The Nigerian forward has been in prolific form, netting 18 goals in the Belgian Pro League, and is currently part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Striving for Greater Professionalism
In an interview with Het Belang van Limburg, Arokodare acknowledged that while he has made significant strides in his career, he is not yet at the level he aspires to reach.
He highlighted professionalism as one of his key areas for development.
“Although I’m certainly not where I want and need to be, my professionalism is one of my biggest areas for improvement,” the striker admitted.
His self-criticism comes despite his continued rise in Belgian football, where he has emerged as one of Genk’s standout performers this season.
Learning to Navigate the Professional World
Beyond footballing ability, Arokodare also reflected on his personality and how it has shaped his interactions within the sport.
He acknowledged that his open nature and desire to connect with others have sometimes worked against him.
“I always think everyone is my friend, but ultimately, that’s not true,” he explained. “I always talk and try to explain things, but I really have to learn to just shut up sometimes.”
The forward’s candid self-assessment suggests a determination to refine not only his technical abilities but also his approach to the professional environment.
Key Player for Club and Country
Arokodare’s performances this season have cemented his reputation as a crucial player for Genk. His impressive goal tally has made him one of the most in-form strikers in the Belgian Pro League, and his contributions will be vital as Nigeria continues its bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
As he looks to build on his success, Arokodare’s focus on self-improvement could help him take his game to even greater heights, both for club and country.
