Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi has been sidelined for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers due to a hamstring injury, West Bromwich Albion have confirmed.
The 31-year-old centre-back sustained the injury during club duties, with the English Championship side announcing that Ajayi will miss several weeks of action.
“Albion can confirm that Semi Ajayi will be out for a number of weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury,” the club said in an official statement.
“He will now enter a period of rehabilitation and will aim to return before the end of the season. Everyone at the club wishes Semi a speedy recovery.”
Ajayi’s absence is a significant blow for Nigeria as they prepare for their crucial fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The experienced defender has been a key figure in the national team’s defensive line and his leadership will be missed.
The injury will keep Ajayi out of Nigeria’s matches scheduled for March, with the Super Eagles aiming to strengthen their position in the qualifiers.
His rehabilitation process is set to begin immediately, with both club and country hopeful for his return before the end of the season.
Ajayi’s determination to return to action will be vital as West Brom continue their push in the Championship and Nigeria pursue qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
