Nigeria’s Flamingos to compete for historic WAFU B U17 Women’s title in Ghana

The inaugural West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU-B) U17 Women’s Championship will take place in Ghana from December 12 to 26, 2024. The groundbreaking tournament will feature seven teams vying for the maiden title, with Nigeria’s Flamingos among the key contenders.

Hosted at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, near Accra, the competition will see teams from Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger, and Togo battle for supremacy.

A draw to determine the groups will take place on November 29, 2024, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The Flamingos, under coach Bankole Olowookere, are coming off a strong performance at the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, where they reached the quarter-finals in the Dominican Republic.

This tournament will also serve as the qualifier for the 2025 Africa U17 Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco, providing a crucial platform for emerging talent in West African women’s football.

The WAFU-B U17 Championship will be a key event in the development of youth football in the region, offering young players the opportunity to shine on a major stage.

Both Nigeria and Ghana will look to build on their reputations and set the foundation for future success at continental and international levels.
