Nigeria’s David Okereke wins Serie B Goal of the Month after stunning 30-metre strike

Nigerian striker David Okereke has been rewarded for his spectacular long-range effort against Hellas Verona after winning the Serie B Goal of the Month award for September.

The 29-year-old claimed the accolade following his stunning strike in Benevento’s 3-1 victory, producing a moment of individual brilliance that helped his side secure an impressive result.

Okereke collected the ball outside the penalty area in the 59th minute, with the score level at 1-1, before unleashing a powerful right-footed effort from approximately 30 metres.

His shot flew into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Nicola Leali with no chance of making a save and giving the Nigerian forward a memorable moment in Benevento colours.

The award provides a welcome boost for Okereke as he looks to establish himself at his new club following his summer move.

Okereke beats competition to claim award

Okereke emerged ahead of Modena striker Andrea Belotti and Cremonese youngster Adin Licina to secure the monthly prize.

His effort stood out for its distance, power and precision, with the Nigerian demonstrating his ability to produce a decisive moment from outside the penalty area.

The strike was also significant on a personal level, marking his first league goal in four appearances for Benevento this season.

Although he had endured a relatively quiet start in front of goal, the award offers encouragement as he seeks to build momentum during the campaign.

The recognition further highlights his capacity to influence matches with individual quality, giving Benevento another attacking threat as they pursue their objectives in Serie B.

Free transfer gives Nigerian fresh start

Okereke joined Benevento on a free transfer in August after leaving fellow Serie B side Cremonese earlier in the summer.

The move presented the experienced forward with an opportunity to begin a new chapter and secure a more prominent role in his career.

His latest achievement could prove an important step towards settling into his new surroundings, particularly as he looks to translate his goalscoring ability into consistent performances.

At 29, Okereke brings experience to Benevento’s attack, and his spectacular strike against Hellas Verona has already delivered a memorable highlight for the club.
