Alanyaspor youngster Daniel Akinlosotu has spoken warmly of his growing friendship with Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen, describing the Galatasaray striker as both a leader and a powerful source of inspiration.
The 19-year-old forward revealed that their bond was forged after a Turkish Super Lig encounter earlier this season.
The pair’s connection began following a match in March, where Osimhen scored the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Akinlosotu’s side.
That moment, the teenager says, marked the start of a special relationship with the former Napoli talisman.
“After our match against Galatasaray, Osimhen reached out to me and that moment meant everything. Since then, we’ve built a special bond,” Akinlosotu told Flashscore.
Akinlosotu, who was born in Abuja, has since drawn strength from Osimhen’s mentorship, both as a footballer and as a person.
“He checks in on me, encourages me, and always tells me to do whatever it takes to reach the top. In his words, ‘the top is meant for everyone, not just me.’”
Now playing a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s pursuit of a record 25th Super Lig title, Osimhen leads the league’s scoring chart with 21 goals.
His influence, however, stretches far beyond goals. “Off the pitch, he’s an incredible person—humble, kind, and full of light. It’s no surprise everyone loves him,” Akinlosotu added.
Despite his earlier success at Napoli, Osimhen’s move to Turkey came after a failed transfer to Saudi side Al-Ahli and tensions under new manager Antonio Conte.
Yet his performances in Istanbul have been exceptional, reinvigorating his career and raising the profile of African players in European football.
“Now, there’s respect for Nigerian talents. Osimhen has done so much, not just for football, but for African pride,” Akinlosotu noted. “He’s not just a great player, he’s a role model, a legend.”
